About the Office of the Accountant General

The Office of the Accountant-General is the Treasury Department of Government with the sole responsibility of receiving, keeping and disbursing government funds. It is also responsible for book keeping of all financial transactions of the government as well as rendering relevant financial reports on government activities.

The Office is headed by the Accountant-General who is the Chief Accounting Officer of all Receipts and Payments of the State Government.

For effective and efficient administration of the Office of the Accountant-General, it is structured into five (5) functional Directorates/Departments and a substantive Director heads each of the departments.

  1. Ensure keeping of proper system of accounting as approved by Government
  2. Supervise receipts and payments of public funds
  3. Maintenance of Treasury Cash Office (TCO) across the State
  4. Classification of funds into Heads and Sub-heads of revenue and expenditure
  5. Ensure safety of all funds, receipt books, licenses and other security documents
  6. Supervision of accounts staff and monitoring their activities across MDAs to ensure adequate precaution against fraud
  7. Compile financial reports received from MDAs
  8. Consolidate and produce the Annual Financial Statements of the State Government
  9. Administer payment of Salaries, Pensions and subventions to Parastatals and Tertiary Institutions
  10. Advise Government on investment activities with idle funds and matured securities
  11. Cash flow management to ensure continuous liquidity
  12. Management of subsidiary accounts to Public servants
  13. Formulate the accounting policy of the Ondo State Government.
  14. Organize training of accounts and internal audit personnel in all the MDAs.
  15. Approve and ensure compliance with accounting codes, internal audit guides and stock verification manuals in all the MDAs in Ondo State.
  16. Maintain and operate the accounts of the Consolidated Revenue Fund and other Funds.

  18. Management of State Assets
  19. Signature on contracts and communications enacted by the government
  20. Financing government operations, management of government debt and the execution of capital issues in local and overseas financial markets
  21. Cooperating with the private sector in initiating and promoting projects in the fields of transport, water, energy and other infrastructure ventures.
  22. Publication of government financial reports and management of governmental accounting.
  23. Executing and supervising consolidated government acquisitions and determining policy regarding government acquisitions.
  24. Administering tenders for supplying banking services.
  25. Administering inter-departmental tender committees overseeing various issues.
  26. Undertaking internal governmental auditing activities in all fields of finance, assets and contracts.
  27. Direct responsibility for the implementation of a number of laws and regulations such as the Financial Regulations, Administrative Law of Ondo State, Procurement Law, Fiscal Responsibility Law etc
